Chopin's ceaseless revisions resulted in many discrete versions of his
music. This talk by Professor John Rink describes a dynamic digital resource allowing pianists to vary their performances by drawing from multiple
versions of the same piece of music.

Since its inception in 2003, the Online Chopin Variorum Edition has
evolved into a resource of c.6,000 digital images of manuscripts and
editions of the music of Fryderyk Chopin, accompanied by extensive
scholarly material. OCVE constitutes a virtual edition: users compare
the sources to construct a dynamic understanding of their
interrelationships and the music’s creative history. The project is
currently designing a new digital platform that will give performers
the power to create unique versions of Chopin’s works on each
performance occasion. This talk describes the work to date as well as
OCVE’s aspirations for music’s digital future.
